I found the perfect article about sex in advertising. It talks about the primal instinct of sexuality. Why does sex sell? It's because sex is the strongest psychological appeal right behind self-preservation, I have no ida what that is so I looked it up: The definition of self preservation is to protect yourself from harm. I guess that makes sense because you can't have sex if you're dead!
To have sex means to procreate and continue your genetic line. It is stronger for men then women because men need to spread their seed to continue their lineage. This is why sex appeals more to men and therefore, sexual ads target men more then women. The reason that sex ads target women is to present an ideal of what they want to be. To se sexually desired is great and women want that, so ads that present of image of sexiness are good for women because they think "if I buy that product, I will be sexy like that model". What is funny is that common sense knows that this is not true. Let's study the Axe body commercial. Do you think that young teenage men think that if they spray the body spray, they will be irresistible to women? Of course not, we are not that gullible - or are we?
The primal urge of sex overtakes all others, except the self-preservation. Even though common sense says that we do n ot actually believe these sexual things we see in advertising, instinct prevails and these advertising methods actually work, because if they did not work, they would not be employed. Check the article about sex in advertising here. It breaks down the simple sexual needs that we are aware of. men need the woman to be young, healthy, willing. Women require the men to be successful, powerful and healthy. Think about this and you easily see how sex in advertising targets these basic human sexual needs.

Top Model Under Fire for Nudity

There is a big upheaval about a recent Top Model airing that depicts too much nudity. If you missed the recent episode, check the Top Model Under Fire for Nudity article released. They claim they are pushing the envelope while the counter says that it is juts like going to the beach.
I don't agree at all, unless you are going to a nudist beach, but this show is aired primetimes when children watch. Mind you, this is not a children's show at all, but they channel flip just like other people do. The show is popular and fun, all about the fierceness of being female, and being sexy. The Model industry is about nearly nude but it is broadcast only on certain channels at certain times.
Nudity and modeling go hand in hand. there are two separate augments and schools of though on this topic. Here I will explore them now:
1.) The human form is like art. To pose the body in a ballet or dance is art. To wrap the body in sheer material in an artistic way is both provocative and art. It;s erotic art, a common and long studies art form. It tantalizes and spurs sexy and erotic thoughts, but it;s art. Think about he Michelangelo statue, he is nude and it's art.
2.) The other form is pure smut. To have a naked woman posing is acceptable because its "art" when in fact is is smutty light-core porn. The only reason that a person would pose nude is to attract men and make them buy your video or magazine spread. It is for sex urges only, nudist is for sex, not art.
Either way you think,the debate could go on forever. i will not compare the differences any longer because every persona has their own opinion - but I will leave you with mine. I think that nudity is art but it has it;s place. It should be on late night television on showcase so that it appeases everyone.
I do not want to see it splashed in my face because it ruins women's body images if themselves and causes men to desire other women. Nudity has it's place and prim time broadcast TV is not the place.
